Ion Chromatography (IC)
Determination of cation and anion concentrations in solutions
Ion chromatographic analyses enable the identification of different ion species in solutions and the determination of their exact concentrations. The measuring principle is based on the separation of ions with different charges and ion diameters in a cation or anion column. The ions are released from these columns with different retention times and measured with a conductivity detector. Calibrations on standard solutions ultimately allow to calculate the exact ion concentrations of the analysed solutions. At this point we would like to point out that AixMinerals is not a certified analytical laboratory for drinking water analyses. We offer ion chromatographic analyses for our customers as a stand-alone or complementary analytical method in order to deal with extensive questions as best as possible.
Applications
Ion chromatography is widely used in industry as well as in research, some examples:
- Detection of trace elements in salts
- Analysis of groundwater
for dissolved ion species
- Characterisation of mineral salt precipitates, e.g. in water treatment plants
